Types Of Affiliate Programs.
Affiliate programs are programs that help you to promote other peoples' products on your website or blog. They are a great way to monetize your website if you do not have your own products to sell. There are basically three different types of affiliate programs which you can join, and they are:
Pay Per Click: Pay per click programs are the easiest way to make money, but at the same time, there are very few of these remaining due to the fact that people were abusing them. These programs will share revenue with you every time someone clicks through whether they buy something or not.
Some of the Pay Per Click programs available are Google AdSense, Kontera, and Yahoo Ads.
Pay Per Lead: Pay per lead programs are the next best way to make money. This is simply where you refer people to your merchants website and there they fill out a form of some kind. Usually the form only asks for a name and email. Once the merchants have the email address, they can then market to the individual whenever they want.
The reason this program works so great is because a lot of merchants will have an incentive for people to fill out their forms. This could be anything like a free e-book, a free introduction to a course, or a free newsletter.
Pay Per Sale: Pay per sale is another great way to make money. This one is the highest pay-out, so the efforts put forth in these programs are well worth it. With these kinds of programs you actually need to make a sale, when someone clicks through on one of your links. Depending on the program you will get paid a percentage of the sale, or a flat rate.
Some of the best Pay Per Sale affiliate programs, or networks, to get started with are Amazon, eBay Partner Network, Share-A-Sale, Commission Junction, and Link Share.
In order to make any money with affiliate programs, you need to have a good amount of targeted traffic coming to your website every day. But that does not mean that you can not join affiliate programs before reaching a high amount of traffic. The one thing that you should always do, is read their terms and conditions before agreeing to them. Every affiliate is different and has a different set of rules which you must follow if you want to be paid from them.

Making serious dough with pay per click is a little difficult. Pay per sale would probably be best for most people looking to make money online.
