It is important when you start working online to put a strong foundation in place. Just because you have a computer, doesn't mean you are ready to work online. You need a blueprint for your online business and a strategy. Without a strategy working from home can be quite costly and time consuming.

OFFICE ORGANIZATION

The first thing you should do is organize your area where you are going to work. If you have an office clean it up, make sure you desk is neat & you have the supplies you will need. If you don't have room to designate as your office, designate an area that will be your office. Make sure "your office" is clutter free and equipped with the supplies you will need. Clean up your computer as well. Discard all of those unused icon on your desk top (or create a user just for work). These steps will help you stay focused on the tasks at hand.

Now that you have your office organized you need to get your virtual office set up. If you are serious about making money online, you want to have the following programs set up. A web hosting account, a video marketing system, an autoresponder, a lead capture and prospecting system and audio and video conferencing. You may feel you don't need all of these right away, but you will be surprised how quickly they will become a necessity.

SETTING UP A BLOG

Blogging is essential in online marketing. You will want to set up a blog that sets you apart from the "rest of the crowd". Your blog should contain useful content as well as video. Most people are not naturals at blogging and making videos, but practice makes perfect. Update your blog every couple of days.

LEAD GENERATION

Now that you have the basics in place, you will want to promote a prospecting system. A prospecting system is basically a system that generates qualified prospects or leads eager for you to explain the benefits of your service. There are many prospecting systems to chose from, find one you are comfortable with and promote it.

ONLINE ADVERTISING

Promoting your prospecting system or your services are the main component in growing your list and your business (in other words advertising). There are many different types of online advertising a few methods I recommend are traffic exchanges, list builders & safe lists. Most of these methods are free, but if you can upgrade to a paid member you will see results faster.

By implanting these steps into your online business you will have a strong foundation with the building blocks in place to create a successful online business. Now go out there and organize, get your toolbox, blog and advertise!
