Are You A Entrepreneur Or A Tyre-Kicker ?

What do you want from life? Are you happy to be in the rat race, having a 9 to 5 job and looking forward to your retirement, where you will probably have to keep on working to supplement your pension?

For some people, that is enough. They either love their job so much that they would never even consider doing anything else, or they already earn a big salary and does not see the need to look at other options.

Most of us, however, gets frustrated with an office job. What really got to me, was having to get up early after getting up for my baby during the night. After rushing around like a chicken without a head, trying to get everybody ready, I had to rush the children to school and then rush to work just to get there on time. My big frustration started then: Trying to do my work effectively in an environment that was mainly male dominated. Being treated like a bimbo was not my idea of fun. To top that off, I worked for a salary that was far less than what I felt I was worth, but, if jobs are scarce, you keep what you have.

What I longed for, was to have financial security and more time to spend with my loved ones. I was getting into a rut and my relationships were suffering because of that. I longed for the laid-back, relaxed life I had growing up on a farm and wanted the same thing for my children.

I'm not a farmer, so that option was not open to me. I started doing some research and I realised that I just needed to double my current income at the time to be able to have the security I wanted. Finding a job that would have paid me that kind of salary, would have been next to impossible and it would not have come without some kind of price: Expecting me to work overtime or taking trips away from home, taking me away from my family even more.

That was when I started looking into online home based business opportunities. I have tried my hand at a few home based businesses in the past and got burned, so this time I was careful. I did my homework and realised that, just as anything else in life: If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. How many times did you see an ad where you are promised that you just need to set up your free system and you will earn hundreds and thousands of dollars while you sleep? If that was true, why tell you about it? What is the catch? The same goes for any opportunity that is either free or very cheap. It will take you forever to make a profit and chances are that you will give up long before that.

Before you decide on a specific program, ask yourself:

1.) Will it work?
2.) How does it work?
3.) How much money will it cost me?
4.) How long will it take to start making money?
5.) How much time must I invest?

To determine if a program will work, look at what is being offered and use your common sense. Look past all the promises and hype and dissect it to the bone. If you are not satisfied, drop it.

If you are, however fairly sure that it is a feasible proposition, find out exactly how it works. Most programmes will allow you access for a limited period, either for free, or at a minimal fee, mostly with a money-back guarantee. Use this to do your homework properly.

Next, you must decide if the money you must invest is worth it. Remember: This is capital to start your own business, so cheaper isn't always better, but don't bankrupt yourself either. Find out how long it will realistically take you to start making money, so that you can make your initial investment back and start making a profit. Remember that you have to plough your first profits back into the business, for expansion or development, so don't expect to have extra money from the business for a while, be realistic.

The most important point, in my opinion, is to find out how much time must be invested in this venture. Remember: you are not only going to need time to do the work, you must also invest some time and money into further education. In this industry, just as in any other, you have to keep up with the newest trends, so this would mean that you will have ongoing training on how to manage and expand your business. Most programs offer you free access to this information, as well as interaction with other members to find out which methods works and how to utilize them.

Once you have decided on a program, you must sit down and make a list of your goals and dreams.

Give yourself realistic goals with realistic deadlines. Remember: Rome wasn't build in a day. You are not going to achieve financial freedom in one month, but, if you are consistent and diligent, you can start showing a profit in a fairly short amount of time, compared to brick and mortar businesses.

There is a better life out there, but you will have to work to get it. Nobody gets financially independent by setting up a few things on the internet end then sitting back and waiting for the money to come in... You have to be proactive. As with anything else in life, what you put in, is what you get out.

You owe yourself and your family a better life. Do you have the guts to achieve it?

Sunelle Moore is a wife and mother of two, living on a small farm outside Bloemfontein, South Africa. Here she can raise her children in the same tranquil surroundings that she grew up in. Her passion is children and the plight of especially rural children who sometimes have to walk very far to get to school daily. She is busy working on a transport program that will deliver the children in her area to school safely and would later on want to support them with nutritious meals, clothing and stationery. As our future, she strongly believes that children should have every opportunity to get a good education as a foundation in life.
